What to Wear to the Miami Grand Prix

Every year, on the first weekend of May, F1 hosts the first of three US races on the calendar: The Miami Grand Prix. Those who observe the fashion over the course of a full F1 season know that each race has its own unique identity. Whether it’s your first time attending a grand prix or your first time in Miami, there are a few key considerations to keep in mind.

We all love to get inspired by paddock fashion, but it’s extremely important to know how active attending a grand prix can be. Fully enjoying everything the grand prix weekend has to offer will entail a lot of walking and potential exposure to the elements. The campus in Miami is large and boasts several excellent food vendors, activations, and performances. So prioritize dressing comfortably and fashionably at the same time.

Linen is always a good choice in Miami, as it lends itself to staying cool when the sun is out. A linen or linen blend set in a light color will give the perfect air of resort-wear-chic that Miami is known for. Neutral colored crochet tops or dresses are also a popular choice, but ensure they are still breathable and not too heavy. Athleisure is an every day staple in Miami year-round, but the Miami Grand Prix is not the time for leggings and a sports bra. The stretchy, moisture absorbing material of athletic wear is a great practical option, but opt for a cute top and skirt set. You really cannot go wrong with denim, especially in Miami. A denim vest with linen shorts, or a cute crop top with your favorite pair of jeans can be the exact solution to all your problems.

Wear shoes you’re comfortable walking in and wouldn’t be heartbroken if they get a bit dirty. You’ll be walking on all sorts of terrain across the campus, and if you spend time along the fence feeling the sheer speed of the cars fly by, note that dust does go flying as the laps pass. A good city sneaker can go a long way, with Vejas, Adidas Sambas or Spezials, or Golden Goose shoes all being popular choices in Miami right now.

Pay attention to the straps and necklines of your tops, you’ll want to avoid anything that can give you an awkward tan line, or worse, sunburn. An F1race is the perfect place to sport a cap of your favorite team. It looks cute in photos and it protects you from the sun. If you decide to go without a hat, be sure to put sunscreen on the part line on your hair. Last but not least, be sure to check the bag policy for the venue. Pack as light as possible, and if you can, go without a bag at all. It makes it easier to get through security lines. Now is the perfect time to get in on the fun, and Miami is the perfect place to do it. F1 fans, see you there!
