Designer Items That Just Aren't Worth the Money

The beauty of success is being able to splurge on oneself and reward ourselves for all the hard work we have accomplished. Money can buy pretty much anything nowadays, but that does not mean every item is worth buying. The value of an item is not always reflected in the prices we see. Designer items seem to be a purchase the average consumer strives toward. But there are some designer items, in my opinion, that are not worth the price tag.

The Cartier Love Bracelet

Starting at $5,300 USD

The Cartier Love Bracelet is a "timeless" piece of jewelry that really proves consumerism can convince the average consumer to believe a slab of gold is worth that steep price tag. This bracelet is the status symbol of the century that many feel, once attained, means they have "made it" in life. No 18k gold bracelet should cost that much money. You're basically just paying for the brand at that point, but you might as well go to Canal Street in New York City and get one for $30. Nowadays, it is really hard to tell from far away which one is the real deal and which one is a factory-produced dupe.

Alexander McQueen Shoes

Starting at $590 USD

These shoes are basically the Skechers of the designer industry. Every designer, at some point, has tried replicating the silhouette of these basic shoes. In my opinion, they add nothing special to your wardrobe and really prove the point that people will buy anything with a designer's name slapped on it. I recommend that if you're wanting plain leather shoes, Adidas and Steve Madden have some pretty affordable options that still give you the quality you are looking for.

La Mer Foaming Cleanser

$115 for 4.2 oz USD

Soap should not cost $115. You're paying for the brand, not the quality of the product. I repeat, soap should not cost $115.

Louis Vuitton Neverfull Tote Bag

Starting at $2,160 USD

Louis Vuitton is considered to be one of the world's most recognizable designer brands, while its Neverfull tote bag is considered by many to be the world's most overrated tote bag. This tote bag genuinely can be bought counterfeit for a fraction of its retail cost, and no one would ever know. If you are looking for quality, you are better off buying a Coach leather bag than paying over $2,000 for a bag made of canvas.

Gucci Flat Marmont Belt

Starting at $550 USD

This belt really has nothing to do with style and is designed for an individual whose mentality is, "Let me just buy whatever screams money." This belt design proves that designers do not really focus their efforts on creating a product that is consistent with their brand image, as opposed to creating a product that does not tell a story. This belt is designed for first-time designer consumers who will throw their money at a product that is designed to help someone build their self-esteem rather than their wardrobe.
